This urban plaza project demanded shade infrastructure that could stand up to constant public use, wind gusts channelled between surrounding buildings, and year-round exposure — conditions that rule out residential-grade product entirely. CSC Shade specified the Glatz Palazzo Royal, the flagship Swiss giant parasol, wind-rated to 120 km/h and covering up to 49 m² per unit.

Each unit is anchored with heavy-duty in-ground sleeves set permanently into concrete, keeping the plaza floor clear of loose bases and trip hazards. The patented Glatz opening mechanism lets a single operator deploy or close each canopy in seconds, and the Class 5 polyacrylic fabric delivers UPF 50+ sun protection with the lightfastness to withstand years of continuous exposure.

The result is a proven template for municipalities and commercial developers looking to activate public space: architectural shade at civic scale, engineered to Swiss commercial standards and operated with minimal staff effort.
