The Project
Waterfront hotel dining terraces
The Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi at Al Maryah Island — a 34-storey waterfront tower designed by London's PLP Architecture — operates its dining and bar terraces in one of the most punishing climates in hospitality: summer temperatures beyond 40 °C and sudden offshore gusts off the Gulf.
The hotel installed FIM Flexy side-post modular networks configured as ganged, continuous arrays — long runs of connected canopies that shade entire terrace sections without a single support post among the tables. The elegant graphite-finished frames blend into the tower's contemporary architecture, while solution-dyed acrylic canopies stay water-repellent, stain-resistant, and UV-stable through relentless desert exposure.
For luxury properties in hot North American markets — the desert Southwest, Texas, the Gulf Coast — this project shows how Italian modular engineering expands outdoor capacity in climates where unshaded seating is simply unusable.
